Our students are required to have a library book with them at all times. As they are not allowed to socialize once classwork is completed, students often find ample time for quiet reading. Many of them discover a love for certain authors or a series during their tenure here. And, honestly, this is the first opportunity many of them have taken to read books for pleasure since reading Green Eggs and Ham.
Because there is no money in the budget to purchase new books or replenish older copies, we rely on community members, friends, and our own checkbooks to keep the shelves stocked with books. A huge “thanks” goes out to the local Children of the American Revolution organization. They recently held a book drive to collect books for our students to read. Awesome!
