Poetry Slam 2013

Congratulations to all the students who stepped up to the mic Friday during the Spoken Word event.  Expressing yourself and getting out of your comfort zone, you shared thoughts and feelings that you found out were (most-likely) not yours alone.

Van Gogh said, “If you hear a voice within you say ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.”  The same holds true for writing.  We hope you discovered that writing helps you understand and be understood.  It helps you explain and entertain.  It gives you a connection to the other humans around you.

You have a voice.  You had an authentic audience.  And you were one of the difference makers.  Thank you for being a part of a special moment.  Take pride in how far you’ve come … and have faith in how far you can go.  Keep writing.  Keep sharing.  Keep growing.
