My second period class has worked so hard on their entry for the NAEA Video Competition.  Projects are such a great way for students to practice essential skills (that aren’t tested): listening, speaking, thinking, planning, collaborating, writing, creating, reflecting, editing, re-thinking, redoing, cooperating, leading, and encouraging.  The list goes on.  They’ve amazed me with the way they’ve utilized and developed individual talents while encouraging one another to step out of individual comfort zones.  While the final product may not win a prize (although there is a TON of pressure on these kids to win because I have a record to uphold), the process has been a joy to watch.  Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world.  Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”  Students, you should never doubt your abilities.  Ever!  You can accomplish great things if you continue to work together with new friends and old. You matter!
